The Thomas Paine Memorial Building is located north of the Paine Monument at the corner of North Avenue and Valley Road in New Rochelle, New York. The construction of this building began May 30,1925 when the great American inventor Thomas A. Edison turned the first spadeful of earth. The 1925 construction cost of more than $35,000 was met by two bequests of $10,000 and $15,000 each from John H. Ludwig of the Bronx, New York, who died March 28, 1917; a contribution of $4,000 made by Edward Tuck of Paris,France; a substantial amount donated by then president William W. Van der Weyde from royalties on the 10 volume edition of Paine's works and the Paine biography written by him; and smaller contributions from many other sources.

For years this beautiful old building has housed our library and museum collection. That archive and collection are currently undergoing re-cataloging, preservation, and conservation. Pending completion of that task, new displays are being designed and the main floor converted into an interpretive center and headquarters for The Thomas Paine National Historical Association. Watch this page for future updates; if you feel moved to support and contribute to the preservation and continuation of this beautiful and worthy institution please contact the Association and begin by joining us.
